Privacy Policy

Last Updated: September 27, 2026

We use AI to process what you enter, and AI can make mistakes.

TaxplAIn uses artificial intelligence (large language models and related tools) to read your questions, explain taxes, and help organize the information you provide. Your inputs may be sent to AI service providers acting on our behalf to generate those responses.

AI output can be incorrect or incomplete, everything TaxplAIn provides is an educational estimate, not tax advice. Please do not enter your Social Security Number, full bank/card numbers, or other government IDs. See Section 4 (Sensitive Data) and our Terms of Service for details.

1. Introduction & Acceptance

Welcome to TaxplAIn. By accessing or using our website and services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, you must immediately discontinue use of the Service.

This policy outlines our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information when you use our Service and the choices you have associated with that data.

2. Beta Program Notice

BETA MODE - Quality Improvement Program

TaxplAIn is currently in beta. During this period, we collect and review user questions and AI-generated responses to improve the quality and accuracy of our service.

What we collect during beta:

How we use this data:

Privacy Protection: All collected Q&A data is anonymized and stripped of any personally identifiable information before review. We never associate your questions with your identity, email, or any account information.

AI Training: We use zero-retention agreements with our third-party AI vendors, which means the data we send them to generate your answers is not retained by them and is not used to train their models. We do not use your personally identifiable information or your financial figures to train any model. We may review anonymized, aggregated questions to improve the quality of the Service, and you can opt out of that review by contacting us through our contact form (choose "Legal") or by deleting your account.

By using TaxplAIn during the beta period, you consent to this data collection for quality improvement purposes. Your questions may be used to enhance our service capabilities and improve the educational tools available to all users.

3. Information Collection

We prioritize data minimization. However, to provide our AI-powered services, we process specific types of data:

3.1 User-Provided Information

3.2 Automatically Collected Data

4. Sensitive Data Policy (Do Not Submit)

WE DO NOT REQUEST, COLLECT, OR STORE SENSITIVE PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION (PII).

You represent and warrant that you will not submit any of the following into our system:

If such information is detected, we reserve the right to immediately delete it and/or terminate your access. We are not liable for any data breaches resulting from your voluntary submission of sensitive PII.

How this is enforced in code

Identity fields are not merely “not asked for”, they are absent from the application’s data vocabulary entirely. There is no field for a Social Security Number, so a value supplied by any route has nowhere to be stored. An automated test verifies this on every build; it is not a promise resting on policy alone.

Photographing a tax document (“Doc Drop”)

An earlier version of this policy asked you not to submit tax documents. The product now offers to read one for you, so this section replaces that instruction and states exactly what happens.

5. Use of Information

We use the collected data for the following purposes:

Data Quality & Improvement

Your questions and our responses are evaluated for accuracy as we continuously improve our data processing and the quality of the Service.

Important: Please do not share your full name, credit card numbers, or Social Security Number in the chat.

6. AI Services and Third-Party Sharing

TaxplAIn is powered by AI services, so using it means your input is sent to them.

To read what you type and produce your explanations and answers, we send your questions, and the tax figures needed to answer them, to third-party AI providers that process them on our behalf and return a response. If you use Doc Drop, your document image is sent to a third-party AI model in the same way (see Section 4). These providers operate under zero-retention terms: they do not keep your data or use it to train their models. AI can be wrong, so anything it produces is an educational estimate, not tax advice.

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal identification information to others. We share generic aggregated demographic information not linked to any personal identification information with our business partners.

Service Providers:

These providers process your data only to operate the Service, and our AI vendors operate under zero-retention terms (the data we send is not retained by them or used to train their models). We do not sell your data, and your tax figures are never used to target advertising.

7. Data Security

We adopt appropriate data collection, storage, and processing practices and security measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction of your personal information. However, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.

8. Local Storage & Tracking

We use localStorage technology to save your preferences (e.g., theme, font size) and chat history directly on your device. This data is not synced to our servers unless explicitly stated.

We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

9. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not directed to children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

10. Your US State Privacy Rights

Depending on your state of residence, you may have the right to: (1) request access to the personal data we hold about you; (2) request deletion of your personal data; (3) request correction of inaccuracies; and (4) opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your data for targeted advertising. We do not sell your personal financial data, and we do not use it for targeted advertising. To exercise these rights, use the "Delete Account" feature in your account settings, or contact us through our contact form and choose "Legal".
